Landing at Luqa Airport, we were met by our guide, the very charming Clive Cortis, who has an encyclopaedic knowledge of his island home. Our first stop was uber cool Valletta – “a city built by gentlemen for gentlemen” – Malta’s capital, which can justifiably boast of some of Europe’s finest treasures: majestic palaces, churches and museums. Just off the main square, you will find designer boutiques, diamond emporiums and delicious patisseries and restaurants.
