The cream-coloured townhouses, built from the indig- enous Globigerina limestone, are like miniature summer palaces with their arched doorways, enclosed wooden balconies and verdant cacti. Each family displays the name of its preferred patron saint on the façade, and neighbours chat on streets long after sundown.
