Malta’s known human history dates back to around 5000 BC and since then has experienced a multitude of influences, not only in culture but also in gastronomy. All those who ruled Malta left their mark: such as the Romans, the Arabs and the Knights.

Maltese cuisine is the result of a long relationship between the Islanders and the many invaders who occupied the Maltese Islands over the centuries.

Maltese gastronomy

No Mediterranean meal is complete without olive oil, honey and wine. For millennia, these have played a significant role in the Mediterranean cultures. On the island of Malta archaeological finds include: roman tools for olive pressing, roman amphoras for wine transportation and roman bee hives for honey making. Historians claim that the name ‘Malta’ also means HONEY!

During the Taste of Malta Tour you will learn more about the history of our Maltese Gastronomy and feast your senses with samples of Malta’s best produce such as Extra Virgin Olive Oil, Maltese Honey, as well as taste some of the best indigenous wines and local bread.
Our suggested itinerary includes a visit to;

• Winery tour including wine tasting in the centre of the island while enjoying breath taking views of the typical countryside.
• Country side views of the north western part of Mata
• Olive grove tour and olive oil tasting while enjoying views of Ghajn Tuffieha and Golden Bay
• Learn about the bee keeping and the history of Melita honey while trying the sweetest honey on the island.
• Visit some traditional village piazzas dotted with pastizzerias and bakeries or if you wish finish the tour with a typical Maltese lunch at a local baker in Valletta or in a typical Maltese restaurant.
